Our Farm History:
Hound River Farm was founded in 2001
on 186 acres and has grown to 240 acres in South Georgia. We rescue hounds and named the farm after our brace. We
chose Katahdin sheep since they are uniquely adapted to our climate. One of our main selection goals is innate parasite resistance.
We feel this is a key for the survival of the sheep industry.
We have state of the art equipment with a large
working barn and paddock system. We use Kencove and Premier electric fencing materials. Our local support system is
excellent with Dr. Tim Thornhill, an experienced sheep owner as well. We have a regional agricultural college and are close
to Fort Valley State University - a leader in parasite issues in small ruminants.
We are members
of KHSI, SCKA, GKA, Florida Meat Sheep Alliance, NSIP and are a certified scrapie free flock.
Hound River Farm
was created by Roxanne and Milledge Newton and our sixteen hounds.
